Major (Retired) Joe 'Digger' Barnes
Reg Sec SASC regrets to inform SASC Comrades of the death 'Digger' Barnes on Thursday 10th July 2008.

He initially joined the DLI in 1941, served during WWII especially in Italy, and joined the SASC at Hythe in 1946.

He served at the then 'Boys Battalion' in 1956, and other outstations such as Pendine, Woolwich, Sennelager and Cyprus, and retired from the Army in 1977.

He was a loyal supporter of all Corps and Comrades Association events until 2007.

A Funeral Service was held at 1100 hours, Old Church (St Mary in Castro), Dover Castle on Wednesday 23 July 2008.

He is survived by wife Hazel, and two sons and their families.
